Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia, is a true cosmopolitan metropolis that enchants with its energy, dynamic nightlife, and rich cultural-historical heritage. Known as the 'City that never sleeps', Belgrade is an ideal destination for all lovers of urban tourism, music and cultural festivals, as well as for those who appreciate historical monuments and museums.
The city is situated at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, making it a unique place where water, earth and sky meet. The central point of the city is the Belgrade Fortress and Kalemegdan park, places that offer a wonderful view of the confluence. The fortress was the center of centuries-long battles, and today it is an oasis of peace and culture, with numerous monuments, a museum, and a zoo.
The beginning of civilization in this area dates back to the Neolithic age, which can be seen in the nearby archaeological site of Vinča. Here are well-preserved remains of Neolithic houses, unique sculptures and numerous artifacts that testify to one of the most advanced civilizations of that era.
The main pedestrian zone, Knez Mihailova Street, exudes a special atmosphere. It's full of bookstores, galleries, cafes and restaurants, and it hides numerous stories and legends. In the immediate vicinity is Skadarlija, Belgrade's bohemian quarter, known for its old taverns and restaurants, cobblestone streets and live music that create the atmosphere of old Belgrade.
Museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum, the Nikola Tesla Museum, and the Museum of Yugoslav History offer a wealth of exhibitions and collections that tell different stories about the history, culture, and art of this region. Belgrade is also home to one of the oldest music festivals in Europe - the Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF), as well as one of the largest music festivals in the world - EXIT.
Belgrade's gastronomy is a story of its own. It combines the influences of different cuisines, and numerous restaurants and taverns offer various traditional dishes, from ćevapi, through Karađorđe's steak, to sarma. In addition, an indispensable part of the meal is rakija, a domestic alcoholic beverage made from different fruits.
Belgrade is a city of contrasts, where tradition meets modernity, where historical monuments intertwine with urban architecture, where Neolithic civilization meets modern lifestyle. Whether you come to explore its history, enjoy its nightlife, or admire its cultural and natural beauties, Belgrade will provide you with an experience you will remember.
